Yeah, it's about aging. Some will watch humans hack, shoot, mutilate, and blow up folks for 3 hours, but a film that honestly looks at the most challenging part of anyone's life virtually is ignored.
Now, I know "art" films aren't for everyone here, but the fact that NO one sees such a courageous, no-holds barred look at aging as a worthwhile watch says something.
It truly was the best film of the year, with only one or two serious contenders (not nominated for Oscar).
Follow Ups:
Haneke's films are difficult but worthwhile. I didn't think it was the best movie of the year but I thought that it had some of the best acting and that Jennifer Lawrence wining best actress over Emmanuelle Riva was ridiculous (more of a commentary on JL's role -- I think she will actually deserve an Oscar one of these days).Btw, watch this:

I saw it and thought it was excellent.
If I want to watch people grow old and die it's all around. We are all growing older and getting closer to that point. Movies are about enjoyment and if anything escaping reality (for me).
No thanks but I'll pass on Amour; looks a bit to sullen for me. Probably (likely) a great movie, just not my style.

I saw it in the theatre with 3 girls. One started crying and I turned around to say that to another when I noticed all 3 were crying. My oh my (or Mye oh Mye). :)
