I just saw this and was surprised that such propaganda got Oscar nominations. I still had hope for truth at the end, expecting the woman who ID'd the body to say it wasn't him, but no. It was well-done, but I think that's the last time that I will use Oscar nominations as a guide to what movies to watch.

nothing is more boring than the truth - bukowski
...an excellent film - very entertaining and one of last year's best.
It built up slowly but there was plenty of tension toward the end even though you know the outcome.
I didn't expect it to be a documentary.
well told.

"I'd like to own a squadron of tanks"
I was impressed with that one. It seemed to show what went on in Iraq without glorification of violence and a level-headed look at the enemy. Actuallly, I ordered Zero Dark Thirty but forgot to change my mailing address in my profile when I moved a couple months ago. So maybe the buyer of my old house has been enjoying it. Not sure why it's still so expensive on Amazon; it was released quite a while ago.

Yeah, I think that it's similar, but more polished. My only issue was that it was the "truth" as believed by a very few and the most important question - who they killed - was presented as a fact without evidence. So For me, it was hard to believe that a director with such talent either bought into or sold a fictional story as truth. Oliver Stone would be the opposite.
You've got that backwards. Oliver Stone had less evidence than the Warren Commission yet he came to the opposite conclusion and used his medium of "docufantasy" to convince large numbers of the moviegoing public of a conspiracy. I am eternally grateful Bigelow didn't engage in such nonsense.

the "photos" of UBL. That about puts the bow on the package.
However, I did like the movie and thought it was well done. I didn't find it politically overboard and even enjoyed how they gave Dubya a break due to the mis-identification of a major lead.
I avoided this film for a long time because I assumed I could not stomach the nature of its propaganda and fantasyland story. (Bin Laden died years before they made the claim they killed him.)
However, I thought it would be important to see.
One aspect of the film I felt was successful: portraying how absolutely insane and horrific are the acts of war.
Argo is a much better film, though also a propaganda piece (though not nearly as obscene).
I should have stuck with my old policy of avoiding all war movies.
While getting very little recognition?
nothing is more boring than the truth - bukowski
But look at all of the evidence they got - oh, wait they threw that away.
Those who believe he was still alive just get their memories implanted further w/ that nonsense.
I liked Argo, but didn't know what part(s) were not so true. The film American Coup filled in some further details.
Dudes, it's Hollywood.

Only a few claim to be based on true stories, not the ones that you cited however. Fictional stories cannot be considered fraud, etc.
Ted was pretty cool, but I did not read at the beginning or end of it whether it claimed to be factual. I'll bet that they did not claim it as factual.
As for Zero Dark Thirty, their failure to satisfy the tin foil hat brigade is hardly their problem.

I may have watched the 1979 version decades ago. I no longer watch such things. I don't know much about that story, but I know that there are things beyond what we can see or measure.
I mean, as factual documentaries and all.
