It's a good thriller/horror/suspense/sci-fi movie.
Excellent cast (Keri Russell is outstanding).
This is way, WAY better than that silly 'The Fourth Kind' movie with Milla Jovovich.
It's one of the smartest, well-made low budget thrillers I've seen in a long time. If you like this sort of thing, don't miss this one.

    It's a shame that they fictionalize Travis Walton's description of what the craft and the aliens looked like. They turned it into the typical Hollywood monster-like portrayal. This was at odds with what was in his book AND what was in the screenplay.

I was wondering whether to see this movie, and now you've tipped the scales to the watch side. (I'll add it to my netflix list).

To return the favor, if you like low budget horror flicks, I highly recommend "Splinter". Above average acting and a decent, and fairly original, plot.

One thing I like about this movie is that the actors don't do stupid things.
Such as girls going outside the house, in their negligee no less, to investigate a weird sound, (which happens in so many horror movies as to be beyond belief).
Or when a coward runs away, (which is logical), only later to do something really stupid, like pet a strange creature that they know nothing about, (this happens in several films, most notably in Prometheus).
I really dislike it when movies have the characters do incredibly stupid things.

  'Eight Legged Freaks'.
  
  It's the 'Citizen Kane' of giant bug movies. Ok, it's a fun old fashioned monster movie.
