Unfortunately, I did not check out the credits on this before I sauntered into the theater. If I had noticed that M. Night Shamalamaranman (the one hit wonder) had made this I would have never entertained the idea of buying a ticket. It was a stretch to see if after suffering 'Oblivion' knowing that all wrecked-Earth-space movies are basically the same. Smith obviously agreed to do this so his son could get his start in the business.
I found this to be a truly inferior script with completely lifeless characters. I am surprised M. Night is still allowed to make films and am hoping someone yanks his writer/director license soon.

...and having no desire to, I can only guess but here's my take:
Will Smith absolutely LOVES to talk about himself and his thoughts on life-philosophy/child-rearing/etc. This will serve as a two-hour lesson on how to be a father in a challenging world. Was there anything that carried a Scientology scent?
I believe it's his story that the screenplay was created from and according to what Smith stated he was intricately involved in the direction as well.
So there are two to blame for it. I should not have pressed my luck after 'Oblivion'
