I'm afraid this news has much larger ramifications than some believe. Without large mindless blockbusters to fill the coffers, the small indi films we all love so much will have a harder time getting made. Not many can afford to lose money on small artsi films without something else to take up the slack. Making a movie for the love of it only goes so far...you also need to put food on the table.

What have those "big six" produced lately worth watching? They are giant fast food factories, nothing else.
I say - good riddance, welcome the era of small theaters with good films, and leave just one or two sausage factories per big city, where you charge not $25, but $100 those willing to watch Avatar.

If anyone can change the way things are done it's those two. Better they be agents of reform than putting out more dreck; neither one has had their name attached to a good film in decades.
