No frights, tension, or nervous fidgeting in this one. I "think" this is supposed to be the "thinking man's" zombie flick. About as exciting as 'Contagion' this film wows us with a few neat CGI tricks and drags us across the globe pointlessly.
Pitt somnambulizes his way through by playing the reluctant hero charged with a heady task. The rest of the cast just takes their cues and say what they have to say. Noticing that Pitt was one of the producers make me feel like he is trying to make a global statement...what that is I dunno.
This is a good rental but until that time just watch the trailer on repeat and you will see a more exciting film.

stoopid zombies
Plot was okay, acting was okay, (I did like seeing David Morse though!), with lots of great action, (most of which was completely unbelievable), which makes for an okay movie, as long as you're not looking for anything truly memorable, or thoughtful, or even scary.
(Typical summer blockbuster - check your brain at the door.) ;-)
The ending seemed a bit abrupt though.
My preference is for "Zombieland" when it comes to modern Zombie flicks.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
...Zombieland was better than I expected. It opened my eyes to the place Twinkies hold in a modern civilized society.
the remake of Dawn of the Dead and Return of the Living Dead over this one. Gonna buy the book to see what I missed.

...I read the book and then heard about the production problems, going way over budget and the 6 month delay of the release.
I thought the movie was pretty good - tense and suspenseful all the way through.
The ending is a little tough to buy having been added afterward, but overall it was pretty good in 3-D.
Pitt bought the rights to the film beating out some others who wanted it.
The book is more intelligent and political, of course.

Unfortunately, the global aspect of the material is part of what's left of the book. Instead of a work based on Stud Terkel's "The Good War", using multiple points of view and shifting narratives, we get co-producer Brad Pitt using only one POV/narrative with actor Brad Pitt. Oh yeah, stuff was left out that would have "offended" important markets. But hey, they got that PG-13 rating we all want for a zombie flick!
I want to see a decent zombie movie. I'd rather a great one but I'll take decent.

"I'd like to own a squadron of tanks"
zombie show that actually shows zombies feasting on flesh? Yeah, zombies are dead and don't need food....or do they? If they don't need food then why do they attack humans just to spread the condition? I guess I need to see a good Zombie 101 documentary.
The Return of the Living Dead
