*Formerly known as film when it was.
I haven't seen any of these, but have read several reviews on a few that tended to scale from 'completely negative' to 'like ... whatever'. Most never made it over the hump.
I'm taking the Spousal Unit to see something this week, but I'm either ignorant, gunshot on reviews, or both. Digitals cost ten bucks and up, so would like a recommendation from anyone who's seen any of these and liked it. I've already passed (out) on the Lone Ranger. That one was unanimous.
Thanks for any input. These are showing locally in Santa Fake:
Mainstreamers-
1) Man of Steel, 2) The Great Gatsby, 3) After Earth, 4) World War Z, 5) Before Midnight.
Lesser rans-
1) Hannah Arendt, 2) Berberian Sound Studio, 3) Stories We Tell, 4) Blancanieves, 5) Hava Nagila, the Movie.
Follow Ups:
...I saw "20 Feet from Stardom" and really enjoyed it.
I know. I said not, but I did.
Partly out of owning up to being in the critical mass (mass of criticals).
All the negative press, national and local, reviewers and native Americans, is overwhelming, and I joined in. People here probably feel a bit closer to the film than those elsewhere do.
I felt I had to give it a fair shake.
I want my money back.
...I was pretty sure I was going to skip it, but now I propbably won't even watch it when it comes out on DVD.
...Man of Steel is a little dark but has gotten some decent reviews - mainly I think for the Superman fans.
I saw Great Gatsby just after I read the book for the first time and I liked it - see Baz Luhrman's production in 3-D if possible. Good date flick.
After Earth was panned by everyone.
I saw WWZ (after reading that book) and enjoyed it - but it's really just another summer zombie movie starring Brad Pitt.
Before Midnight is the highest rated film now by the "Critical Consnsus" panel. Seems like an excellent date movie.
Look for "20 feet from Stardom" at the art film house - about some not so famous back-up singers for some very famous bands.
I'm not familiar with any on your lesser-ran list.
...instead of referring to the new presentation means as "digitals", how about "files" or "digital files"?
As for recommendations, "Man of Steel" is awfully heavy and WWZ is decent mindless summer fare. Since I haven't seen the others on your list, WWZ is my humble rec.
