All the praise is justified. This is a really well done film.
Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, Fruitvale is his first film and a very auspicious start.

was a little disappointed. I thought the acting and the "back-story" of Oscars life could have been better. Nevertheless, I recommend it highly to friends. And it definitely is very powerful and sad and important!

For me, a welcome relief during a summer of mindless crap at the movies. Sure, some of the movies have been fun, but its refreshing to see something poignant.
I need to come clean here and admit I am a bit biased. I have known Rosemary Graham (the English professor who persuaded Ryan Coogler to pursue writing screen plays) since I was 6 years old. She is the sister of my best friend when I was a kid. She always was the smart one.

We played today and during a break had our weekly movie discussion. He and his wife both loved it. It's on our list after "The Way Way Back" which was sold out last time we went to the Anjelica (only venue in Dallas showing either)

It's the best movie I've seen since "Midnight in Paris" (last summer?).
Absolutely amazing that it was done in 20 days and for under $900K by a first time writer-director. And so very cool that Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer and Forest Whitaker understood Coogler's vision and saw it through.

The guy exudes star quality. Can't wait and maybe will go tomorrow after tennis. Just checked the local rag, they're now in, if not wide release here, "wider" release.
