Just in case folks misinterpret your warning, it's a slaughter all right, but it was not conducted for the purpose of the film.
From the director:
"The very first thing I want to make clear that absolutely no kangaroo was injured or killed for my film, WAKE IN FRIGHT. When we shot the scenes with the kangaroos, there was always a representative of the Royal Australian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals present on the set. In fact they strongly wanted the scenes of the massacre of the kangaroos to be as disturbing as possible for reasons I will specify later."

    - On the "mentioning list" add Picnic at Hanging Rock and Don's Party - Road Warrior 06:18:27 09/09/13 (4)
      I threw in Don's Party for nostalgia sake. It was one of, if not the first, movie I remember from when we first got HBO back in the day. Not sure if it belongs on a Best of Australia list but an interesting period piece (a party, set in the late 60's IIRC, ostensibly to celebrate a hoped for Labour victory in the elections).

- Another addition, City of Life and Death. I had just finished reading The Rape of Nanking - Road Warrior 10:53:35 09/05/13 (1)
  when I got turned on to City..... The movie pretty closely followed the book. It had awesome battle scenes at the beginning and subsequently portrayed the horror of the Japanese occupation.
