I just stumbled over this clip, and as I watched, I kept thinking to myself - what a roster of films that year produced! And what actors!
Seriously - any of those films truly deserved the Best Film award. Any one of those actors was worthy of the Best title.
And then I compared them to the crap that is constantly being discussed here and I nearly wept.
We simply don't get actors and films like that any more.

If I remember correctly they were all well seasoned stage actors. They were professionals

and was reminded at how "classy" actors used to be. They were under no obligation to cater to the latest trend or ape the latest social trend. Days long gone.

  No instead they were forced to pretend they were dating and probably "married" to be trotted out as being "good role models" for a hugely homophobic society. Think Rock Hudson.
  
  As for being classy - they had no technology to deem them any other way - no cell phone cameras every 8 feet to snap them doing anything untoward. No internet to spread anything they happened to do all over the planet in 1 second. Controlled paparazzi. The images of them were classy - as for BEING classy that is something entirely different.
