I've never really liked this movie, but couldn't figure out why, until
recently, when it dawned on me that it's a SOAP OPERA!!! And not a very
good one. It's on again tonight, my SO is watching it, and some of
Rhett's and Scarlett's lines are true howlers.
I know, I know, it came out in 1939, and standards were different then.
Follow Ups:
not nearly as long, tedious, over-acted or with that unbearable feeling of such self-importance.
MANY great films came out in 1939; GWTW has to remain the most over-rated of them.

Or try Carol Burnett's classic retake, parts 1 and 2:
still secretly looking for her Rhett. It's tragedy in real time.
It's actually pretty epic in the theater.

All women are pretty and all films good enough after that.

the major stars, i.e. Clark and Vivien, or you're not.
NO one should approach the mega-blockbusters of their day expecting anything but fantastic entertainment. I don't think anyone sensible EVER has expected high art. Certainly, no such claims were made for the book. It was schlock, in its day, but very good schlock.
A guilty pleasure, if you wish...
There are still thousands of good films out there that I have not seen.
Would I waste my time on something of a marginal significance that I have already seen once?
Would I drink the wine that has been sitting in the glass for the last two weeks?
Well... to be honest... sometimes I do... :(

Good vodka doesn't have to be expensive, but I've never had cheap vodka that was good-tasting.

"I'd like to own a squadron of tanks"
is it the best?
Hard to say any one brand is "the best" but Grey Goose is certainly a top shelf item. I'm happy with Stoli if I want to save a few bucks, but I'm certain I can tell the difference between the two. I'll no longer drink anything less than that though.
I tried it. It is. However, as most of our vodka goes into White Russians, Veil works perfectly fine. It'd be a waste of good vodka to put the Enchanted Rock into it. Again, try Veil if you can find it. You may well be surprised.

...Smirnoff is the usual winner.
Charcoal filtering.
Unless you like your vodka to have some flavor or other.
I wrote it off years ago as "premium" vodkas became all the rage. Another good, inexpensive vodka, recommended by daughter (bartenderess), is Monopolowa. Still, our "go to" mixing vodka, is Veil.

...as many as can pay for a big marketing campaign.
Hanger One vodka is made near here.
I stopped drinking the hard stuff about 10 years ago - a little beer and a lot of wine is all I drink now.
All personal tastes, of course, but I never liked Smirnoff. If you want something inexpensive, but good (in my view...), try Wyborowa, it is very good. When properly chilled and served, it is excellent.

...solid state amplification vs tubes to me.
And I like the flavor of tubes.
Patrick's gonna love it! :)
Vodka, most definitely, is NOT a diluted alcohol.

it is ice-chilled: any vestige of taste would interfere with the delicate flavor of… caviar?

I once brought him some real man's vodka, and that nearly killed him!

Maybe I'm wrong but it doesn't seem like straight shots of scotch, tequilla, or bourbon.
Grey goose to me doesn't seem like straight drinking stuff. If that's one of the best maybe I better move on.
