The oddly attractive Nina Hoss plays an East Berlin doctor banished to a small German town after being caught trying to escape to the West. She starts work at the local hospital and begins to experience a slower pace of life and the ever present eye of the "authorities". This is an interesting character study of Hoss and those around her and how she plans to escape once and for all to the West. A well done character study that ends with the with the timeless question: What next? A quiet film for a quiet time. NF streamer with subtitles.
Follow Ups:
I liked the quiet narration, with no emotional outbursts.
The girl in the hotel was hilarious... she and her catalog. My wife and I laughed our butts off, we remembered those books vividly - brought to Russia, sold and paged, paged, endlessly, for those glimpses of Western life...

Might see if after I finish The American.
Speaking on subtitles... I am still trying to convince my daughter to break the psychological barrier and start watching all that euro pseudo-intellectual crap, so she could converse with the likes of you in a bar.
So far she is refusing... I need to find some irresistible vehicle.

star Clooney. I will probably watch it again. Very slow, very Euro.
Beautiful scenery, beautiful people (well, some of them, anyway...) and very formulaic plot that breaks no new grounds, just a safe passage. Overall it gets a non-irritating rating. I certainly don't regret putting it on.
Making a professionally looking and working suppressor from a few gearbox parts, on your kitchen table, with just a hammer and a file, is extremely thought-provoking... turns out, cutting a fine-pitch pipe thread can be done with a bread knife in a jiffy, and that is nice to know for those dark times that might be coming.
