...the season is finally over - the weakest of the three so far.
Surprises in the final episode - not really any you didn't see coming.
Now what?
The article below provides some insightful analysis which I agree with.
What do you think?
Follow Ups:
'Prisoners of War' first aired in Israel in 2010 and is in production for season three. Interesting article comparing the two....
----
The difference between the series can be summed up, superficially but accurately, by saying that “Prisoners of War” is about soldiers, while “Homeland” is about Claire Danes. The American show has focused on Ms. Danes’s high-wire performance as a troubled C.I.A. officer, and has emphasized detection and suspense over everyday events.
The Israeli show has political-thriller elements, but it’s really an ensemble drama in which the cloak-and-dagger side is secondary to a naturalistic study of the effects of torture, absence and return on ordinary men and their families.
...being based on the real-life female CIA agent who found Bin Laden and oversaw his killing, also played by Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty.
Actually I think the writing and story have been quite good until this season when it looked like near the middle they began making it up as they went along.
maybe she has the best agent?
the writers do seem to be winging it...
...called it by far the biggest mistake he made in the show.

What’s the worst mistake that Homeland has made? And conversely, what decision or moment are you most proud of?
I’m going to let the mistake one just go by. It’s sort hard not to feel defensive about criticism, and for me to wade into that… Look, the Brody family has been a bit of a third rail. I guess I would say the biggest mistake we made, possibly, was giving Dana another love interest in this season. But that said, I think without it, that scene in episode 9 when she and her father were reunited in that motel doorway may not have had as much power as it did.

They forgot why the audience comes to see such shows - there is, after all, the Lifetime TV chick flick alternative. Here people watch for a spy thriller sake.

Carrie will keep the baby.
Saul will be back as a CIA Contractor.
C'mon... this is just a rather mediocre TV show, you can't spoil it with anything. Even if Saul turns out to be a woman.

...so don't watch it.
Who cares what you think?
I'm sure you'd love it if it had subtitles...
rarely make it to 3 or 4 episodes at Casa Nasty much less 3 seasons. I tried watching The Following, Hostages, Grimm, Almost Human, Marvel;Agents of Shield, and Blacklist this and, or, last season. The furthest I got on any was 3 epis on Hostages, then, No Mas!!

I'll bet he yells at the kids when their ball goes on his lawn.
Personally, I don't watch much TV - I'd rather listen to music or read a book.
Homeland is about the only series I watch.
Veep was excellent but it's over.
You might want to check out a cupla other shows on that list.

Bullets... no matter the weapons... never penetrate more than an inch or so, so no surgery is ever required, just poking in the hole with a tool will suffice in order to extract it.
One can easily hit, from a good distance, a marching person in the arm, missing the bone, of course.
Upon such a hit a person falls down unconscious, and stays that way until help arrives.
The Director of CIA can make routine unescorted trips to Venezuela, with a bag full of money.
Boy... I love the show!

sneaking up on Brody as he was escaping the Kurds? On the Iraqui side of the border. Sighhhh. I found myself suspending disbelief more often that I like this last season.Yea, that Quinn, he's a Helluva shot eh?
What happened to the mole referenced in Season 1?
What happened to the search for the real Langley bomber? The guy they took out in the hotel room, was that the f'n result of that hunt?Oh well, can't wait for S4 despite all the sillyness of S3.
I do think the end of Brody's story arc was fitting as the flawed hero gained a measure of redemption by his actions in General Ahkbari's office.

we are just an american viewing audience after all
LOL
But speaking of the audience and how the producers treat us... I would recommend to the writers at least some low level reading on how the totalitarian societies operate.
According to them, if I were a Beria's deputy, and introduced to him someone, and that someone somehow managed to kill Beria, I would then take his place.
Clearly, they are playing us for total ignorant idiots. Any such plot would have resulted in MASSIVE purges and slaughter, not promotion.
This is totally idiotic idea, clearly the product of some pot smoking Hollywood imbeciles.
The only remaining tiny bit of interest in the show is the interplay between Saul and Lockhart, plus the character of Quinn... the rest is just plain kaka.

One would think Javadi would be prime suspect # 1. He stands to gain from Ahkbari's death, he introduces them, as you said, he's just freekin returned from the USA to recruit Carrie fer Chrissakes.

I was so pissed throughout season two I didn't know what to do. Even though season two's finale was compelling I swore off future seasons. I hate Carrie and think she needed killing off.
...an excellent actress.
But if you don't care for strong women or have had one in your past who went off her meds, I can understand your strong emotions.
Personally I much prefer Brody's wife, but that's not why I watch the show.
but love Morena who will only appear in a few episodes during season four.
At least in Homeland she let her twins out to play for our, uhh, amusement.
I heard a saying about crazy, "never make babies with crazy". Seems like sound advice. I think, however, trying to make a baby with crazy would be fun. In fact, from days long past, in a city far far away, I recall it was fun :~>

...but I would prefer a shot of her from Year 1, Episode 3.
she does ice well
actual acting not so good
...a few weeks ago waiting for an eye exam and was flipping through a Town and Country magazine to see how the other half lives.
I came across a familiar face...

I thought Season 1 was much better. The final episode was totally disturbing and I mean that in a good way. Brody in the vault. Carrie's last 2 or 3 scenes. Hope this doesn't spoil anything for Victor if he gets that far.
I totally agree with the article you linked. I look forward to season 4 just to see if the magic of the first two season can be captured again.
For 36 hours of programming there've been remarkably few "dud" episodes. Most of those have come this season, especially the ones featuring Dana.

Which is to say - just short of a complete crap.
I don't have Showtime, but ordered it for one month just to see this masterpiece... so far saw 2 episodes... big yawner.

...but a compelling cable TV series.
Watch about 5 episodes and you may get hooked.
Unless your expectations are unreasonably high for a cable TV show.
The second season is even better.
