Or a pretty close facsimile of drama. This is the most serious he's been but not to the exclusion of who he really is.
This mystery-thriller follows a top, renegade DEA team through a cartel safe house raid and the subsequent attacks on the team triggered by said raid when $10M is found to be missing from a pallet of cash. The Atlanta PD gets involved via Olivia Williams who plays a role unlike anything I've seen her do before. Dressing mannishly she manages to affect a Southern accent that adds quirky charm to her character. Speaking of which, the whole team of notables is a veritable circus of well-developed characters who act as one until they start to die one by one.
This film has a close up, handheld POV for the most part. It really adds to the grittiness of the subject and the characters. The dialog is snappy and there are plenty twists and turns from beginning to end. The violence is gruesome but not non-stop.
For an Ahnold movie, I enjoyed this one. It has a lot going for it with strong performances and a good script. Plus, this film far out does its trailer. You have no idea what is really going down.
Follow Ups:
...pounded it, not to mention the nicknames of his co-stars in the film. But I do prefer Ahnold's style over Stallone's if I have to watch one or the other.

the 'Training Day', 'End of Watch' dude did this one. Mega gritty with the swearing of an entire aircraft carrier make this an amusing look at crime vs crime.
My fave Ahnie line: (Did you steal the money?) "No, and fuck you for asking." Good line to live by in the fora world.
I'll catch this one. It's just a matter of when. It's almost certainly gonna be a rental. Can't be more far fetched than Act of Valor and I liked that.
BTW, just saw Capt Philips y'day. Wifey and I both liked it.

...we thought Capt Phillips was very well done, but could see why it wasn't nominated for an Oscar.
Maybe it was that we knew the outcome, having watched it on the news, or maybe it was just Tom Hanks.
...perhaps a DVD guilty pleasure when my wife is out of town.
Pssst...don't tell tinear.

I doubt a reviewer ever has had as much fun watching and writing a review about a film he F rated.

That aging thing is eroding into his muscles chops. Stallione got around that by being the old muscle guy doing his final blaze of glory routines. Willis is also following that route.
I always thought that the guvernator, with that axcent and cold stare, would do well as an aging leCarre-type spy.
can't fake. It's not like Ahnie can take steroids for smarts.
pumps even more iron and becomes an international film star with a ginormous following then becomes a governator! This is anything but a dumb guy. Ahnie once said in an interview that a "real man" controls his destiny and makes things happen. He kind of did that.
Ferocious drive. Greed. Ambition.
They're enough.
Intelligence isn't necessary in film or political success.

heard nothing to contradict it, was that Ronnie was an idiot. He could speak the words of others pretty well, however. Look, the guy's only correspondent when he was president was a young school girl. I'm not making that up. The only one. His slathering supporters put the epistles into a collection, purportedly to show how smart Ronnie was. I'll say this, he held his own with an 8-year old. That's assuming, of course, that Nancy didn't orchestrate them. That's better than an even bet.

...Reagan is higher than Carter - he was a nuclear engineer.119 votes?
Like the People's Choice Awards.

Nuclear Engineers are only marginally smarter than chemical engineers.

...not his plan - just unintended consequences.
understood the consequences. You don't really think we could afford to build Star Wars, do you? Play poker much? :-)
...he began investing in real estate early on and became a multi-millionaire before his film career got going. He became Governor of the 5th largest economy in the world.
And he married into the Kennedys.
Ahnold may not make the type of critically acclaimed serious films tin enjoy being condescending about, but he can't say he isn't very smart.

Do you think the various successes he's had originate from a dumb mind?
And aren't you the guy who places emphasis on direction? He doesn't have to be a spy to a to act one. You're a smart guy, but your prejudices are walking point here.
don't think he's up to much of the old foolishness.
much better Jerry B could play "tough?"
Seriously, you almost make me wish to part w/four bucks (matinee prices 'round here). Heck, I may even give it a Netflix freebie slot...
Nt
gives a far better taste of the script and what's really going down than anything seen elsewhere. Certainly worth a $4 trip to the walkie.
