Just saw the Guard with Brendan Gleason - it was alright. Beyond outrage - very good. Loved the Private eye and secret Reunion (both Korean)Also loved the Chinese Detective Dee movies...Finished the third season of Sherlock etc..
Gracias!

Try the not-that-old "In Bruges" and/or "Seven Psychopaths". Don't watch them too close together, as, though they are totally different, you will notice the huge similarities in style (same writer/director).
If you prefer the British crime (and humor) style, go for "In Bruges". Not for delicate ears.
For real trashy and about as twisted as a "trash noir" gets, I really like "Wild Things". Watch it right to the end of the credits, and even past I think, it doesn't stop. This one really makes me laugh, best watched with a bunch of guys (i.e. no women).

the upfront racism is something you won't see made here. All very funny in the way it was done. Gleeson and Cheadle were top of their game on this one.

a few months back. I can't think of another crime mystery that's been done better in recent memory. Gritty, as dark as a wolf's mouth, compelling characters, unpredictable non linear story telling, and a realistic portrayal of the rural south's underbelly. 9.4 on IMDB.
For a regular movie A Place Beyond The Pines was pretty good.
