I normally follow at least two years behind. Watching Zero Dark Thirty right now... :(
Added Rush to my queue, so maybe see you next year? :)

The way she opened the film with a black screen and actual phone calls from WTC put me in the mood of having no sympathy for the torture victim. I guess I was well manipulated by the way she put together.
(The torture victim was the Arab killer from a season of "Spiral".)
...when the interrogators are recruited from the victims' relatives.
It is a known fact that the interrogation time gets cut by a factor of 10, nd the volume of information goes up by about the same ratio.
But most commonly the job is given to someone who doesn't give a damn. At 5pm he turns the lights off and goes home.

view it as an occupation; they go home, eat dinner, watch tv, kick the dog or the wife, have "normal" lives. The power of cognitive dissonance and deflection ("I'm just following orders, doing my job").
...when torture and murders were so widespread, there were numerous stories of such people.
Some notable examples included a guy who personally executed up to 500 people EACH DAY. He had a family, children, he would leave for work in the morning and return in time for dinner. Looked perfectly normal.

It felt like a remake, so that spoiled the impression.
Reminded me of the FMJ/Platoon situation.
Overall I was not crazy about the fast paced action, I would have preferred a slower but more deliberate one, but that may be an old fart in me speaking. The ending was done with good care, I thought, with enough respect for human lives, and I liked that.
I don't think one can expect truly fine film making in such a subject-dominated work, so overall it is a very respectable effort, but I am afraid the intricacies of the chase will be lost on the less informed viewers due to neck-straining pace.
I did not like Gandolfini bit at all.

Not a great film but a step above a popcorn one?
