My favorite serial tv drama, Lomgmire has been dropped by A&E for the upcoming fourth season. This is a quality show, and has/had the network's highest number of viewers. Seems to be another terrific executive-level decision. The producers are shopping around for another outlet; this seems to have caught the players flat-footed.
The paper this morning printed a comment by Lou Diamond Phillips, one of the principals, to Tweet in support at #LongLiveLongmire.

.... and that final gunshot, now we have to see next seasons first episode to find out who got shot. Its life or death for the shootee and probably the shooter. Important stuff.
Hopefully another network will pick it up. Lots of followers out here.

Upon reading this thread, I searched for articles that explain the show's demise. This link explains the situation pretty well, even though it's speculative at best. *They also drop a plot spoiler, so if you haven't watched the 3rd season completely, you probably don't want to read the end of the article.* All that being said, it sounds like the show was too expensive for A & E. It did lose almost a million and a half viewers from the high point in its second season. I was one of them. It's a DVR viewing culture, and that changes the landscape for tv programmers. I thought the performances were stellar, but the story lines got (IMHO) far-fetched. No offense intended with my dopey opinion. The show might just end up somewhere on another channel. I hope so.
Not sure A&E understands how this whole 'tv' thing works.
The shows more people watch, you keep. The shows nobody watches, you cancel.
They seem to be doing it backward.
