Denzel's EQ is a solitary man of few words with a fetish for precision to a fault of almost being effete. But, that is in his quiet "ritualistic" moments. When he springs into action he has more cunning and power than Lucifer himself. Don't believe me? Go see for yourself. The main target that begs for "equalizing" is a Russian mafia setup that runs everything imaginable including Moretz who is a very young prostitute with a knack for getting pimp-slapped into hamburger. The Terminator, er, Equalizer interjects his talents into her life and takes on the oligarch of sin by doing "nuclear" damage then appearing in Russia for the great retribution.
Now, suspension of disbelief is an absolute mandate. If you aren't in the mood to let go then wait. Unless the EQ was Lucifer in human drag it is hard to swallow the things he does. Not in a fantastic CGI way but by means of human interaction.
Great production quality and story but basically an action movie not a "film". I noticed the viewers of IMDb gave it a much higher rating than Tomaters. This one is not for the critics but for those with a touch of blood lust and women who need a Denxel Fix.

Great movie. I loved the old tv show- The Equalizer as well.
Would not find if this became a franchise w/ several films.
thoughts on that, similarities or differences?

This isn't just a mindless killing machine at work. Washington is a guy who seems curious about evil itself. It was hard for me not to draw the conclusion that people tolerate such evil unnecessarily and that it must be harshly and inhumanly dealt with. I liked that the antagonist was carefully drawn, yet unlike in other films, he wasn't then made forgivable.
More so than Liam's latest, this one has a little thought and character development behind it.
Summer film of the year, a few weeks late...

This and other recent films of the action-spy genre are restricting the scope of one of our best actors. Art vs. money.
Reflecting back, Denzel was a former BLACK OPS soldier (for whatever that means). He's back in civilian life and he has not adjusted to the trauma he has experienced. He has PTSD. Severe cases can produce OCD: the tightness of his bed, shaving his head, morning shakes, checking his apartment, going to the same cafe, arranging his utensils precisely, opening and shutting the door several times before the fight (big clue), and Moretz saying "I know this breaks protocol" when she went to sit down.
More importantly, he was projecting the "flattened affect" in which the personality has retreated due to stress and trauma. Remember how he seemed flat until someone spoke to him and his smile and face seemed to brighten up mechanically? He nailed it.
Also, PTSD guys can have tremendous guilt for no apparent reason: Hence, the Equalizer, doing good to absolve the guilt that may be hurting him.
Denzel was a severely traumatized ex-government killer.
...hmmm.
Made Liam a star.
