How did you get past the nonchalance of everyone when she was missing for 24-hours? Pretty much anyone w/2 neurons to rub together, at that point, knows the result isn't going to be good. Affleck's character, especially, would have faked more concern to appear more innocent.
The old boyfriend just happens to be a kidnapper? And the wife seemingly on the spur of the moment becomes a vicious, cold-blooded murderess?
C'mon.
This was way over-written. Hollywood seems to think that complexity makes for excellence. Every group of writers adds another layer, resulting in a meal that has way too many sauces.
Follow Ups:
Kathleen Turner's character in Body Heat. Her plan was meticulously laid out and executed up until the point the skeezes robbered her. I think she weighed her options once young master Affleck made his plea on TV. She was out of cash, staying with a control freak for whom she had zero feelings, and took what she figured was the best way out to at least get some resemblance of a normal life back.
I won't argue with plot inconsistencies, there were some, especially the one line of dialogue utter3ed by Kim Dickens' partner which swept away the blatant inconsistencies in her story that the film record at Harris' house would have shown, i.e.,. The movie, taken as a whole, worked well for me. I did chuckle at her blood covered return to Dunne Manor. In the near future we'll all be singing the praises of Rosamund Pike.

"E burres stigano"
Remember the film was actually in two parts: Affleck's accusal and Pike's escape. She had meticulously planned the whole thing and that is hard to imagine that someone is so analog they could do it in such detail.
Probably going to get some Oscar action, nominations-wise.
