After watching the "Band of Brothers" and "Pacific" the movie "Fury" comes pretty cartoon-is. And since the entire Hollywood existence, in recent years relies on Graphic Novels and comic strips...maybe that was the intention?

Follow Ups:
People went back 2 and 3 times. Fury was a study of the effects of war on men that just happened to have fairly realistic combat situations. The ballet between the Tiger and Pitt's machine was worth the admission. I felt tense the whole time.
If you noticed, the emphasis was on the crew and how men begin to act after years of war. I think Fury was the most realistic tank movie made from the standpoint of being inside. I believed I referred to it as Das Tank. You are probably the only one who finds it "cartoon-ish".
...the 'study' was pretty weak in comparison to the two mini series I keep mentioning. Especially, since the latter two were based on the true vents.
Nowhere in the series the soldiers/marines acted like thugs.

Do you not remember what the GI's were doing in Pacific when they were sitting among the skulls and mutilated corpses? Fury showed that Americans had the ability to be as big a pig as any other soldier on the field. That's reality. Look no further than your homeland's reputation. Oops.

Delves into the different versions of the Sherman tanks and there improvements through the war...
The original versions had smaller projectiles and could not penetrate the 4" thick Tiger Tank armor...(Sherman's had 3" armor)...
The biggest advantage the Tigers had was 88 MM shells...they blew the crap out of the Sherman's...It was not until late in the war, when the US put on a new cannon with a larger projectile that could penetrate the Tigers armor ...
The tank in Fury was one with the bigger cannon...AND last known running Tiger tank was used in the movie for 1-day...the museum curators were on sight and they were a bunch of nervous nellies...
Next to the Sherman, (Bulldog)...the Tiger, (Mastiff)...it is a pretty easy decision which dog I would pick in that fight...
thanks

Ft Benning 1973 I served with a TECOM unit running a rocket range testing anti-tank rockets. A large number of WWII tanks and other large armored vehicles littered the range as "tagets". Nearby was a perfect M4A1 nearly intact. We would hid to "smoke" or get out of the weather inside it sometime. Three young guys fit inside OK but it was sobering to think what thousands of young men had to endure 25 years earlyer.
The darn thing had a radial air plane motor in it!
...but for sure, the equipment Germans made was vastly superior at the time.

disadvantages Germans had during winter. 1) Not a lot of layered clothing but the actual killer was the requirement to wear a steel pot at all times. The steel pot acted as a radiator and kept German body heat much lower that Russians who wore a lot of woolen headgear instead of steel. 2) Germans were just dropping dead where they stood or sat. They sent special teams to autopsy hundreds of deceased and found nearly ZERO body fat. They could not retain heat or feed their hearts. In Germany they hustled out a "paste" (think potted meat) to help offset the demands of their metabolisms. When the paste was issued even more troops died. Their stomachs and systems couldn't handle the dosage of new fats. Bad time to be a German ground pounder.
Actually would like to see it again on the small screen when it comes out on Blu Ray.

Did you have chance to watch The band of brothers and Pacific?

Those were 10+ hour series. Kinda hard to compare a 2 hour in the theatre movie to seires that can take a more leisurely develomental pace. I liked Fury, I did not love it. Give me We Were Soldiers, BlackHawk Down, City of Life and Death, and the Saving Private Ryan's Life.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.

A long-standing Marvel comic book series.
If the movie is based on that, then some of the stuff in it would be in line.
...but my history professor friend tells me the Sherman tank was a piece of junk and responsible for more deaths in WWII than you can imagine.
