Apologies in advance if this has been discussed earlier, but some of the details of this new restoration are very recent.
Francis Ford Coppola & Robert A. Harris are producing a new restoration and theatrical release (with live orchestra) of Abel Gance's groundbreaking silent film. They are calling it the "Apollo" version as representing the longest cut which premiered in Paris at the Apollo Theater in 1927. That version was reputedly 9 1/2 hours long. This version will clock in almost three hours shorter, closer to Gance's own recut versions attempted over the years, but still presumedly longer than Kevin Brownlow's monumental 5 1/2 hour restoration screened three years ago. Note: Without knowing what footage has been located & restored or the projection speed it's difficult to ascertain what this new restoration encompasses.
Sadly, Kevin Brownlow's involvement in the Coppola/Harris restoration appears to be nonexistent and Carl Davis's monumental score isn't even being discussed. In the future Carmine Coppola's score will likely be the only one associated with Gance's film. Current plans are for the new restoration to premiere in Paris on Bastille Day in 2017.

It is a long lead time, but that may be what's required for another restoration of Napoleon to navigate the divide between the Brownlow and Coppola camps.
I don't know about how many of us will be around, much less able to sit through the "Apollo" restoration, but catheter sales should be booming! ;^)
