after watching the show every weekday for the last three months. The OCD was bearable, the assistants were very good and some good detection work. OK show but Mr Monk was very likeable. Much better than The Mentalist, Fox Crime, Downton Junk et al. Trudy's killer was caught!
Cheers

Hi Bill, my favorite Monk scene was when the chief was giving Randy his instructions and Randy was sucking on a Big Gulp sized soda the size of a KFC bucket making slurping noises but keeping a strait (Bob Newhart) face...did ya see that one Bill...Mark Korda
Randy was a character. The one I liked best was when he quit and revived his high school Rock band! Not the tunes but the lyrics were something. Now Randy is the Chief in Summit, NJ!

Monk was excellent. The Mentalist was pretty good too, but the over-wrought Red John sub-plot took much too long to resolve. The whole change up with Patrick's disappearance, running off to Mexico, being caught, extradited and ending up as an FBI profiler was more upbeat and worked the last couple of years. Jane's emotionally damaged character gradually recovered over time which I thought was a great acting choice that breathed new life into the series.
If you miss Monk I'd highly recommend catching Elementary (entering it's fourth season this Fall). As a traditionalist, I resisted watching this series for a couple of years figuring it was just a campy over-the-top modernization of Sherlock Holmes that would trash Doyle's master detective. Heck, I can't bring myself to watch the CGI driven action films with Robert Downey Jr. reprising the Holmes's character without wincing (He should stick to Iron Man).
But, after my wife encouraged me to watch the first couple of episodes of the CBS series I was hooked. This series is actually a brilliant re-imagining of the character. Only the viewers are aware of how the original literary works relate to his behaviors.
In Elementary, the world's greatest detective has serious OCD issues (a'la Monk) and a substance abuse problem, has moved from the UK to modern day NY to escape his past, that Watson is a female caregiver/apprentice hired by Holme's father to help him recover and that he works as a police advisor solving crimes as therapy. If you can get on board with that you'll like it.
As I said earlier, I didn't think this series would work for me at all, but I've grown to appreciate Elementary as a modern masterpiece (poignant, often brilliant, with clever writing, interesting characters and appropriately complex mysteries). My 2 cents.
Cheers,

That sounds good, to have Sherlock in NY. He was OCD anyway and had his opium. He can be shown in Avery Fisher Hall listening to violin concertoes. He can take the fire escape to avoid Moriarty. How does the modern day Moriarty look? He was great in the Granada series.
We dont have Elementary here yet. Thanks for alerting me to it. When they start showing it here they will show one episode a day which is better than once a week.
Cheers

The influence Moriarty has over Holmes is integral to his addiction and why he moved to NY. The Moriarty character in Elementary is very different from the evil Victorian mastermind in the superb Granada series. The latter is the closest take on Doyle's sleuth we're ever likely to see, but both interpretations are excellent (the Moriarty in Elementary is just as cunning, perhaps more so, but cruel to Holmes in a totally different way). I can't say more without providing spoilers.

One of the funniest things was when they changed Themes, Sarah Silverman
told Monk Never to change themes in a series, don't remember the actual set up,
but Randy Neuman's Theme became the opening Theme, and Jeff's Guitar Solo Theme was the Closing Theme.
Better than Downton Abbey?
I don't think so!
Actually, I found the Trudy thing to be a lot like the Red John thing in there Mentalist, a little over the top, I liked the shows that didn't go there, just the run of the mill episode.
Never liked Churchill or the colonial times. Liked better the 'half naked Fakir' as branded by Churchill.
Peace
