Here is the film bio...not my words...
Sixteen-year-old ALICE PALMER drowns while swimming in the local dam. When her body is recovered and a verdict of accidental death returned, her grieving family buries her. The family then experiences a series of strange and inexplicable events centered in and around their home. Profoundly unsettled, the Palmers seek the help of psychic and parapsychologist. A series of clues lead the family to Lake Mungo. Lake Mungo is a mystery, a thriller and a ghost story.
Release date: Jan 29, 2010 (I edited out spoilers of this bio)
My insomnia late night movie watching brought me to this little gem...first off it presents itself as Documentary...I have to admit, I bit on that big time...it really is a Mockumentary...as I did not find that out until AFTER I had watched it...which was a little disappointing, but them it hit me, they did a really good job with the suspension of disbelief...(Sorry if this was a spoiler, I do not think it is)...
As I was watching it, I thought this is one of the most intense, creepy and scary documentaries I have ever seen...lots of hand held shots, cell phone footage and interviews with all the players...during this viewing I thought once again life is stranger than fiction...
I hesitated on posting about this, because I felt so stupid that I did not know it was a Mockumentary...but who cares, they did a great job...fooled the hell out of me...(did I mention late night and insomnia)
This is a solid 3.75 out of 5 stars...it is more ghost story than any type of horror movie being made to day...no guns, no blood and guts, no boogieman, no stars and extremely LOW budget...just a well told story that was extremely well edited...
Worth a rental and a watch...
thanks
Mark

Follow Ups:
Put up a very clever and intriguing website and presented the movie as a true story. It was all hogwash but it made a lot of initial box office money.
I will have to check this one out, though.
Saw it with Mrs. Nasty, we both liked it, a "light" *** of ****, and promptly forgot about it til the MARKMAN just jogged the memory banks.

"E Burres Stigano?"
Yeah...
I thought about the Blair Witch when I was watching it...but all the interviews with the family, Dr's and police, just really threw me off...
Like I said, the guy who edited this did a really good job...even though it feels like a documentary...it had this suspense about it.
There is much more I would like to say, but everything I want to say would give it away...It does stick with you and there is one good jump and twist in it...
If you have HBO-SG it is on tonight, (or tomorrow morning), at 2:15 AM CST...I am DVR-ing it so I can watch it again...
Thanks
Mark
Ps. I just felt so stupid I did not know it was fiction...
