This film had all the great things needed to go back to 1963: the cars, the clothes, the women, and the settings. It had everything but a decent script and story line.
Poor Henry Cavill seemed miscast in this one. I believe his performance was hindered by his attempt to project a Robert Vaughan voice styling. It didn't work for me--if it had been more subtle (if possible) maybe it would have been effective. Armie Hammer did even give the accent thing much of a try which, to me, made him almost all-American.
The competitive play in the film was completely different from the series as the whole movie was Spy vs. Spy rather than the tight team work we saw as kids.
If you want to take a trip down memory lane then saunter on down to the walk-in. If you want to save that popcorn and coke money for a better film then get ready to queue it up on the cable.

What script!
Cavill ok as Solo. But a bit more foppish than was Robt. Vaughan in the tv series. Not that Vaughan, as Solo, really owned the screen.Hammer as Illya Kuryakin; I thought that sort of worked
Vikander. Don't get.... except she made fine eye candy. Modest acting skills, but the camera loves her.
Enjoyed the torture scenes with their evil Dr. Especially the final touches of it. Chuckles.
But the fun parts were out on the European streets. The cars. The clothes. The style. It was never that much fun. But the movie worked for me in its style and its spooks-at-work humor.

Love the Italian cinematography, the clothes, and the cars. Yea, that part was quite the trip down memory lane. Liked Hammer's performance more than Cavill's. The movie was The Man From Uncle in name only tho, it was set in the right time, had the original characters, but as you suggest, it was a by the numbers spy v spy flick. Almost walked out 40 minutes into it but I'm glad I stayed as it progressively got better. 2.5 of 4.

"E Burres Stigano?"
it was more fun and can not be thought of as a serious film. Some of the style and editing was (a bit) tasteful which kept it interesting.
overall a (mild) thumbs up
...said the clothes were the real star.
And Alicia Vikander was much more human as a robot in Ex Machina.
but we must factor in a robot emulating perfection vs. a young commie female ready to flee E. Germany.
