Secret In Their Eyes which won Best Foreign Language Film for 2009. Ricardo Darin is a hell of a lot more charming than Ejiofor and the wooden presences of Kidman and Roberts. I digress.
---
It begins in 2002 with a counter terroism squad in LA staking out a Mosque suspected of creating a terror cell. Ejiofor has been transferred from the East Coast and is a principal member. Ironically, a dead body is found in a dumpster located next door to the Mosque and it just happens to be Roberts daughter. Much grief and the killer gets away with it. Eijiofor goes private but devotes his spare time trying to locate the killer. After 13 years he finds him and the hot pursuit begins.
This is all done with the overhanging desire Ejiofor has for Kidman who is engaged and later married. Unrequited office romance just like the original.
This, to me, is tepid bath water. Having the seen the original many times over the years I cannot help but cringe to this "updated and relocated" film. There is an elevator scene with three Oscar winners on board--nothing special, no electricity.
If I had not seen the original this still would only be treading water. Just not enough fire in the belly. Lackluster direction perhaps. Poor Kidman was a cadaver.
Okay, Mr Negativity doesn't completely like it. Sorry, I shouldn't have seen the orginal.

I have a few questions Billy. Does the bad guy win? Does Roberts sing? How much do you spend on films each week?

I was only able to handle 1/3 of the trashy trailer.
We could have spit that $20 you wasted, had a half-case of good beer.
If someone has not seen the original, he must. Great film.
