One would have to term it atmospheric due to the lack of outright "action". Obviously created to show the tribulations Russians went through at the hands of Nazi Germany. At the end I found the depiction of German soldiers completely stripped of humanity fascinating. It was a circus of death and depravity. Poor Russian had thousands of My Lai's.
They truly unleashed their pain and anger upon the Prussian population. Virtually every woman from 13 to 85 was raped, many murdered afterwards. They showed that when it came to cruelty, there was not much they had to learn. The looting and pillaging we the norm, with special detachments searching for all kinds of treasures, to be loaded in train cars belonging to the famous Russian marshals and generals.
A minor officer brought back a couple of suitcases, a major - a car load, a general had a train car and a marshal the whole train. I grew up seeing German stuff everywhere.
Of course, that subject still is a huge taboo in Russia, even today, as the Soviet Army is still presented as nothing but the Liberators.

I still don't remember who won, though. But you might want to do a search.

Not as brutal as it could be but conveys the price of living in Berlin after surrender. Used to be on NF.
One of the books by Victor Suvorov (a pseudonym) is completely devoted to the subject, and it is shocking.
Also, Killing Patton by Bill O'Reilly allocates significant space to it.

...The Last Train.
A very unusual Russian war film. Don't recall where I got it from, but it does exist, albeit it is rather obscure.
Thick atmosphere that you need a Stihl chainsaw to get through.

very interesting, almost compelling.
I need to ask him if he liked it. I believe I bought it based on the discussion here last year?
