It was odd for me to see Butler out of uniform--no facial hair. Way less face man and much more ruffian.
The film opens with a beautiful wedding in Pakistan getting obliterated by a drone attack (guess who?). Barkawi (Aboutboul) is an international bad guy and arms dealer who sells to every failed state and his family just paid the price for it while he escaped.
We cut to Banning (Butler) and President Ascher (Eckhart) jogging in DC. Banning goes home to shower and appease his very pregnant wife (Mitchel) then receives a call that the Brit PM has died of a heart attack. Suddenly, all the world leaders are converging on London for the funeral. No security force has time to make good plans and they all step onto the web of Barkawi (Aboutboul) who wants revenge and to sell more arms due to the massive terrors attacks that are happening.
I found the beginning and set up to the action very plausible and interesting. When the action starts people start dying and Theme Park London starts going away. Nice CGI. Wry humor was abundant and Banning actually changed magazines regularly. All in all, the excellent lead-in to the action in London out classed the almost mundane run-n-gun action we have all witnessed. One thing, I had suspicions of various characters throughout the film--I wondered if I was paranoid or that I was over-trained in the art of action film.
This is a well done guy flick that's worth a coke and popcorn. Great way to grieve the end of football.
PS. Chris Rock would approve of the diversity of the cast.

My girlfriend and I go to the movies every week, no matter how bad the movie options are. We just love the outing... but we were yawning and walked out on this one- refund too.
Real crappy.
Hi, I didn't even see it but when I saw the trailer knew right off it was an English version of Olympus Has Fallen. Am I right? It looked like the same star from 300. If you didn't see Olympus, it was about the fall of the white house....Mark Korda
...reviewers have trashed it.
I guess you're accustomed to it now.
You need to see more film and share with us.
