Not many words: What a long long bore. The research to how to survive on Mars was quite good....
Follow Ups:
The book was much better. I was disappointed at what was left out in the movie.
...I read the book and found all the science a little tedious although I studied science.
It got better as it went along, though.
I thought the film did a good job of bringing the book to the screen.
The movie left out all the science he used to come up with why he did the things he did.
That is the rule of the game...
It's different at home. The soundtrack was kind of a disappointment, I expected more oomph in some ways. But then, being realistic, there's no reason for noise most of the time, what with the isolation and the lack of air thing. I've just been feeling that soundtracks on most BDs have been getting lamer and lamer even as they use more sophisticated sound designs and encodings. I don't really have a problem with that, I hate overblown bombast for the sake of it, just gotta complain about something...
I don't mind the movie, very light, and I do appreciate the attempts at not dumbing down the science *too* much compared to usual, and giving some props to scientists/engineers/etc. I wouldn't have necessarily done everything the same way, what with all my experience on Mars and whatnot...
It is always so. You can not compare the home with the movie house experience. Very very light yes. They are no more good movies in Hollywood. Iran or the kind of countries still give us a good choice. Movies are over. But why complain? We got all what we ever wanted to have, on DVDīs. And still some rolling..
Matt Damon or Leonardo D. in The Revenant.
Also, did either of them have stand-in breathers, was most of the breathing
done post production, did they have breathing coaches OR did they share the
same breathing coach?
In either film, the breathing was an imperative aspect of the film.
Much like getting through any day.
I enjoyed The Martian.
Anyone looking for more than enjoyment from such a film will be disappointed.

...face down, too.
The revenant not seen yet...Now the breathing on Capra film was a true one ( Shangdi-La ) and on the revenant too...
Glad you enjoyed it. I could..Not..
But I did with Mr. Whicher---An english soap...
I was satisfied with it up to the ending which was ridiculous. The critics liked it more than I did.

Which critics....
The Academy. See below

Apollo 13 was a film to my taste, a good script, a true more or less- story. and a myriad of good actors.
Would you want to see this movie twice?
Now I read a lot of critics and you are right most liked it.
I donīt.
I would not choose it as one of the best as well. Spotlight was the best film I saw last year. So I agree with the Academy on that one.

Must it be? I already had that one playing in Irland Philomena-----
,
In German, cause my wife watch it with me. Usually I look it in the original version. Which is 99% always better. But they are exception....

He was also a romantic actor with Meg Ryan. And not a bad one.
