Edgar Rice Burroughs and his Tarzan novels. After having seen the trailer for the upcoming Tarzan movie (noted in the thread title) I decided to finally, after nearly one lifetime, give the novel a read.
So I went to Project Gutenberg and downloaded the first of the Tarzan novels; Tarzan of the Apes.
Like all of Burrough's novels this is a quick read with an entertaining and lively narrative. The inspiration for all of the movies. And the movies never live up to this novel. They can't. Anyway, just saying I may not bother to see this movie, but I'm glad I read the novel. One of Burrough's best, if not The best.

Follow Ups:
...thanks for the book recommendation - I'll have to check it out.
I remember watching all the Johnny Weissmuller films growing up.
And I plan to see the latest movie as well.
When I was kid, I read most of the books. Like you said, easy reading.
Completely different from any of the movies.
