This is a strange one. This mystery won't hold your attention without putting in some effort, at least until the end when several parallel paths, or story lines, converge. Its worth it, so dial it up and hang in there. Limited release earlier this year; available on pay-per-cable.
One line: Keanu Reeves is a depressed NY cop detective who's personal life has been gutted with loss and grievance. His partner has been mysteriously killed and he is piecing it together while being told to get off of the pursuit by his own department. The word is out that his dead partner was a bad man. Mira Sorvino plays in as the partner's wife, who eventually confesses that her husband was indeed filthy.
Another line: Ana de Armas plays Isabel, an innocent-minded, very religious young woman who suffers multiple emotional traumas, starting with her fiancé' being killed on Iraq deployment. While he's in the sand box, she mysteriously gets pregnant. Its a divine miracle she says. Her finance's family doesn't buy it, so she moved back with her own parents; with a father who abused her as a young girl. Isabel sees divine apparitions; angels from God. She also sees and befriends a young girl who has her own father issues.
These 2 lines converge as Reeves continues his hunt, thinking that men Isabel knows did the killing. As these men are eliminated, only Isabel is left in the picture. The stories converge. Her innocence is eventually revealed as psychosis from her childhood trauma.
There are several other side stories going on that have you wondering where the hell anything is going. Just when you get tired of following one, they switch you back to another.
If you stayed with it, the ending is extremely revealing to a profound WTF moment when the light clicks.
You should come away with a very graphic understanding of the depth of how damaging child abuse is. Its a contagion that is passed like a virus between generations. You have to wonder how much it has contributed over time to our fucked up world. Reeves produced this himself. Its worth the money.
Follow Ups:
I'll probably be happy to see this one when it has trickled down to commercial TV. Meantime I have to say that as much as many folks knock Reeve's on-screen personna, or the depth of his acting skill, he continues to get work in Hollywood. There must be money in it for the investors and bankers or he wouldn't be working so much. So there it is.
I have to say that the John Wick film wasn't completely bad for me. I found it to be an entertaining action flick if not a believable one. And the 47 Ronin movie, probably disappointed devotees of Japanese folk culture and their domestic films. For me it was ok for one sitting. I likely won't sit for it a second time. No complaints.
And the matrix trilogy, as bad as the 3rd installment was, they still stand as worthwhile movies in my estimation. At least the movies explored an interesting subject for me, virtual reality, etc. The fact that Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss simply had no apparent chemistry to spark those slow drip romantic scenes caused me to cringe a little, but I was able to get past that and continue with the rest of the movie. (Reloaded)
So, I'll likely see this one when it doesn't cost me too much money or effort. The time spent watching a movie we as movie goers surrender freely. And this is time that may require budgeting.

If you go in looking for typical Reeves, you'll be disappointed. He's a very depressed character, and as such, does little to help you find his pulse, as Billy stated. This is an emotional mystery with most of the action having already occurred in the script. The several parallel story lines are interpersonal and develop by convergence.
Very different, but I think its a terrific film. I didn't come to that until the ending.
yes, I'm guilty of associating Reeves with action flicks and not seeing any potential for him in any other movie genre. Sigh.
Thanks for the update. I should give the hype, news and reviews about this flick a tad more consideration before I decide if I watch.....which I had not done prior.

AND, I sure don't know what to think about Keanu's acting beyond Bill and Ted's least excellent acting adventure.
Sorvino over-acted this one and Keanu, well, somebody needs to take his pulse.
