Where were many myths like this one, the creation of the propaganda machines. Some were loosely based on real events, others were total productions. The heroism of the soviet soldiers can not be underappreciated, though... and the propaganda machine also played its role in bolstering its fighting spirit.

One of my all time favorite movies, Enemy at the Gate. Hope it was true.
There was indeed a very good sniper with that name, but the whole story about the duel is a myth. It is possible that Zaytsev indeed shot a German sniper - perhaps even more than one - but there was no such German super-sniper, and no duel.

Yep, I listened the review of the movie, and how that myth came about...
I still wouldn't mind watching.
...the soviets had produced some of the best war movies ever. And there are literally thousands of them. The Hollywood war films are for the most part just laughable.
