I waited two years to see it... I should have waited another 50.
I am quite familiar with the story, and it is poignant, so it was double disgusting to see it made into a cliche-overloaded Hollywood trash.
Follow Ups:

You are such an Elitist.
With your attitude, I'd never touch a BAT Product.
Anyway, being an Expert must be a full time job,
how do you find the time to design Electronics?

Victor, I saw a great film about the German enigma machine but it was butchered by Hollywood. U-571, a WW2 action submarine movie staring Matthew McConaughey and Harvey Keitel in which the heros in the sub are Americans. The real story is that is was an English sub/crew that were the heros of the enigma machine capture from the Germans. No snoozing on this one...Mark Korda......and That's Hollywood... (Tom Bosley).
As often is the case, the real story is far more interesting, but less impressive on the big screen, so they always reach for some cheap embellishments. Me, I would rather take it raw. The documentary called Codebreaker is such raw dish. No syrup there. More truth about the work of the Poles, in particular.

Not that I agree, tho.
I wouldn't go that far. I found it lacking in the mechanics of what was involved in the breaking of the system. It was slow paced and lacked enough emotion at times. I had been encouraged to see it by a friend who like it. My reaction was less positive. There were much better films nominated IMO.

...my friend the history buff loved it.
I thought it was a little slow but well done.

From Wikipedia page for Imitation Game:
The Imitation Game is a 2014 American historical drama thriller film directed by Morten Tyldum, with a screenplay by Graham Moore loosely based on the biography Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges (previously adapted as the stage play and BBC drama Breaking the Code). It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as real-life British cryptanalyst Alan Turing, who decrypted German intelligence codes for the British government during World War II.
The film's screenplay topped the annual Black List for best unproduced Hollywood scripts in 2011. The Weinstein Company acquired the film for $7 million in February 2014, the highest amount ever paid for U.S. distribution rights at the European Film Market. It was released theatrically in the United Kingdom on November 14 and the United States on November 28.

You don't even have to watch it - close your eyes and listen to its endless drone music - you will know in an instant it is NOT UK.

...FWIW, I thought it was OK and certainly not "trash".
Perhaps it's because I've worked in the IT field for some 40 years and was immensely focused on the extraordinary historical nature of this film. I found that those involved in the IT world differed on where the movie should have aimed more focus. The film was squarely fixed on the hardware nature of the event. while many thought there should have been more focus on the software development. To me both were and would have been just as interesting. I understand those aspects probably wouldn't interest the majority but none the lest this is a film of an extraordinary event in history. One that changed the world as we know it in more ways that one.
Hi Victor, I love history and movies about certain happenings in WW2 but that movie put me right to sleep. I'm with you on that one...Mark K.
