An excellent Netflix production on British monarchy, highly recommended.

And a once feudal state in the land now known as Germany. But I suppose the netflix video isn't a history lesson. I might have to watch if there is some history in it.

I've only watched the first three episodes and I'm completely hooked. I love the fact that Lithgow was tapped to play Churchill. He does a really good job. Dr. Who isn't bad as Phillip either.
When King George dies (if that was a spoiler...I feel sorry for you...go read a book) the way she finds out and the fact that she "dies" as well is delivered effectively. You can tell they are cherishing the plane ride home because they know that once it's over, the old life is as dead as the king.
I might have guessed to the content. But your post is useful.

No need to feel anything...and certainly not sorrow.
Fwiw, I have been reading a few different history books of late. And I'm still hungry for more. Hence my initial inquiry.

Good for you! It was meant as a jest and not mean spirited. humor. History is full of humor, and other stuff.
The first reaction was sharply negative, but gradually I accepted him.
I thought Harris was simply superb.

I am a good friend with the cossack Ataman of USA and Canada, and I can assure you that he drives a Benz. :)

...that we even had Cossacks here in NA, let alone one of their Ataman. Not sure about the Benz. It must be hard to swing a cutlass from one of those. ;-)
-Steve
Tens of thousands, I believe, going back to 1917 or so.For those who don't know, Ataman is an elected position, elected at the Rada.
Anyway, there is plenty of controversy about them and their role in the 20th century history, I am not a part of it, I just have fun meeting and talking to the Ataman. He is a very colorful individual.

that the role of the Ataman would have evolved over the centuries. Iirc, these were high ranking military leaders; compare to multiple star Generals in US Army. Why would they need to retain a centuries old title? Aren't the Ataman (as well as the Cossacks) obsolete?
-Steve
I find all that stuff with uniforms, etc. silly, but I am not one of them, so who am I to tell them?
They are determined to preserve their identity, that goes back hundreds of years and is quite colorful. There are many good things that could be said for them, even considering all the controversy, including the pogroms they were famous for. Many of them were forced to leave their homeland, in particular, during the evacuation from Crimea, under the leadership of Vrangel, and these people are remembered warmly in Europe, where they built many roads and bridges.
Anyway, it IS a fascinating subject... there are many movies on it.

It's clearly a Canada Goose.
I didn't realize he even knew Hilary.

The Trumpls were German boat people. Changed their name to "Trump" in an attempt to disguise themselves as Englishmen, in order to avoid the ethnic discrimination that German immigrants in America once faced.
