Samsung, in general, is a crap company. Vizio (distributed by V Inc) is a budget company. If your brother is planning on keeping the display for years, purchasing a Panasonic or a Pioneer will be better in the long run. He can't go wrong with either manufacturer re: plasma displays.

Not related to plasma build quality, but isn't Sam Sung the OEM manufacturer for Sony's LCD sets? I seem to recall headlines announcing a billion dollar contract to build all of Sony's LCD sets.

BTW, I've been quite happy with their DLP products. If there is any manufacturer I fear it has got to be Philips. I do notice the Koreans tend to be very nationalistic. Their own products tend to be manufactured with a higher eye towards quality than those that they make for others (NAD and HK use LG a lot for their designs).
