And my sense of "Financial frugality" has improved and kept the primal urges to buy, buy, buy at bay ....
Except now the Holiday rush is getting cranked up. Just on the Blu-ray side I see major threats to the wallet's well-being (at $30/pop retail):
Underworld (Just picked up today)
Day after Tomorrow (yeah, it's a doubledip, but HD is like that sometimes)
Fantastic 4 (SS)
28 days later
28 weeks later
Robocop
AC/DC
2001
Clockwork Orange
Hostel 1&2
King of New York
David Gilmour
Spiderman 3
Oceans
I robot
Close Encounters
Die Harder, Die Harderer, etc...
Life of Brian
Independence Day
Mr & Mrs Smith
POTC 3 (...or maybe not)
Harry Potter 1-5
Blade Runner
that's the "short list" - I might have to pare it down a bit (or add to it). I don't usually buy movies this frequently but it's tempting now.
A lot of these are available on the HD DVD side as well, but dang if there aren't some HD-exclusive titles I might take a look at:
Transformers (but no lossless audio, big NO-NO)
Dreck 3 (hmmm, maybe not)
Bourne Ultimatum (no lossless, sigh)
Jack Ryan collection
Star Trek TOS ($200 - OUCH !)
Moody Blues
roy orbison
BattleStar Galactica
Follow Ups:
Whenever that may be, that is when I'll spend on some titles I want.
Netflix works well for me for the time being!
About selling SD DVDs you mentioned in an earlier post, unfortunately one will not get much on the used market. Just look up most any SD DVD on amazon and it will show the used prices sellers are asking.
.
There's way too many of them. "Breaker Morant" does look like a good one. I don't recall "Wild Bunch".
A few double-dips for me, but most are first-ever buys.
HD DVD:
A Clockwork Orange
Blade Runner
2001 (own on DVD)
Galapagos
Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas (or should I get the Criterion release?)
The Road Warrior (used to own on Laserdisc)
Lost In Translation (currently have on DVD)
Being John Malkovich
Harry Potter collection (only own #3 on DVD)
Blu-Ray
Paprika (never seen it)
Tekkon Kinkreet (ditto)
Ratatouille
Oldboy
American Psycho
Standard-def
Dora-Heita
The Eye X
Preordered-
Blu-ray:
Underworld -have the seond one on HD DVD
Old Boy
FF 2
HD DVD:
Transformers
2001
Tremors
Star Trek (cheaper on Amazon)
Cat people (?)
To order:
Blade Runner-HD DVD
BSG season 1-HD DVD
BSG Razor-HD DVD
Close encounters-BD (maybe)
poltergiest (if it comes out)
Jack
This could be a good time to start, but I'll read the reviews first. TOS probably looks really cheesy on HD but I vaguely recalled they've spiffed it up a bit.
