for testing, I need a movie that really can do damage to woofers.
Follow Ups:
On DVD now, though the Blue-Ray is out in a few weeks. Thunderous cannons, balls and shot tearing through the ship, booms and creaks in the beginning of the movie. The best overall sound design for a movie ever IMO. Tests your whole surround system, not just your woofer, although it will certainly do that. Plus, a great film.
Backup: War of the Worlds, Black Hawk Down
Parts of Donnie Darko (director's cut) and Pulse, bottomed out my sub. Out of about 1000 DVDs, those are the only 2 I can think of that do that.
Note: My copy of Pulse is an HD DVD with TrueHD audio-noy sure how the DVD is.

That should do the trick! :)
how about the Ork battles in Lord of the Rings
cannon-fire in master and Commander across all 6 channels at once actually shut dowm my pioneer Receiver..never happened before OR since.I think all 6 channels were going full blast at low frequency is what did it.
The remake of "Flight of the Phoenix" purportedly has a 34 hz low point during the crash sequence. The film itself is OK, not as good as the original.
"Master and Commader" has some very frightening and woofer busting cannon shots toward the begiining of the film and also sports the best overall sound of any conventional DVD.
"Open Range" has some pretty convincing thunderstorms and and startling gun shots.
Not sure how low it goes but the spacecrafts bellow is the most impressive sound I have heard come out of my Martin Logan Descent. Maybe it's because it's not the usual explosion. The lightning is also very cool.
I didn't know that lightning had a sound.

You're kidding right? When lightening discharges it makes a rather thunderous noise!

Your sub can't reproduce 10 hz with any power. Not one in a million can.
Most can't even get down there.
Also, most subs are designed to survive the usual forms of abuse.
To be honest, my favorite test of a sub will always be Jurassic Park.
If you start to lose sphincter control, it's a good sub.
I have a Velodyne F1800R Servo that is supposed to have some response at 10 Hz. All I know is that various items throughout the room begin to vibrate very strangely during some organ pieces, and if I happen to walk in front of the woofers during testing, my trouser legs begin to flap around as if I'm in a gale wind.
But what I like about it is that there is no boom or obvious peaks. An auto stereo buff would say it's not putting out, because there's no boom-boom-boom. (I also use a 10-inch woofer with the center channel.)

I built a pair of subs using the coffin as a model.
I built them as 2 seperate cabinets using Peerless 85486 drivers.
10".
Using the BassZone test cd I could play 10hz to 85dbs.
When testing the subs I had to remove from the garage wall behind the subs because they would vibrate so badly. Thats almost 5' behind the subs firing direction. Pictures and objects on tables need to be removed or secured.
Our daughter would have to leave the house because she could not stand the
pressure waves. They made her sick. BTW she was downstairs in the basement!
Now I have transmission lines subs of a smaller size and power.
But their better in bass pitch.
Best way to achieve those low frequencies is said to go with an infinite baffle subwoofer. For around $1500, one can easily build a world class HT sub, as long as there is a space, outside the room, to mount the manifold.
I'll have one ...someday.
The helicopters, ATVs and explosions have lots of deep bass information, but they also have lots of treble. It's well engineered, too (for a movie).
