I would like to have a TH-50PZ77U (1080P) but I read somewhere that the whites were not as bright as they should be. I saw an older model and could definitely see what the writer was talking about. By the way, Circuit City had the TH-50PZ77U on sale for $1799 a couple Sunday's ago. If I had caught that price I might have jumped on the deal!
Follow Ups:
A couple of the big box stores had the Panny plasmas setup in "Cinema" mode, which makes the whites dingy looking. And they always had them next to a Sony LCD, which was brighter (and costs more). My Panny plasma at home looks fine.

Best Regards,

I found that the sets in showrooms, especially Circuit City, were often adjusted in very strange ways. I saw one Panasonic set that had looked spectacular in another store look awful in our local store. It was a quiet evening, and the guy in the store gave me the remote to adjust it. When I was done it looked like a completely different, vastly better set; he was amazed.
You can easily change the effective color temperature, which can make whites go from bluish to yellowish depending on the setting, so you have to be careful when making a judgement in a store. You just don't know what the set-up is without checking. That also goes for sharpness, hue, and many other things. I am extremely happy with the 58-inch Panasonic plasma that I bought, but I tweaked it to my liking. The whites are very natural to my eyes.

Agreed. I was at a Myer Emco (mid-level AV chain in the Washington, DC area) and saw a Toshiba LCD w/ some horrible interference running through the screen. When I pointed it out to the salesguy, he admitted he hadn't even noticed it, and said they don't adjust their sets at all - they just pull them out of the box and put them on display!
It's really hard to judge TVs from store displays.
I bought a Panasonic TH42-PX600U. It's a great TV. However, I took a lot of time reading up on various sets at avsforums.com beforehand.
