PS3 world sales last week 502,820 units, total 7,751,279 units.
I think SONY is pleased with these curves.

...using the chart you linked, PS3 doesn't look so hot.
the sales of PS2 and PS3 worldwide is about equal, 500,000 units pr week, so what are you talking about?
The PS2 is much cheaper, at USD 130, so at USD 399 PS3 sales are very good.
Anyway, on November 19, 2005, the PS2 became the fastest game console to reach 100 million units shipped, accomplishing the feat within 5 years and 9 months from its launch.
That is one of the many reasons people buy a PS3, it is a long term investment. PS2 is now close to 8 year old, and still selling well.
How many other consumer electronic items do that? Phones go in 2 year, PCs in 3 years.
So many people buy a PS3, because USD 399 divided by 8 years is only USD 49.88 pr year. This is advantage of buying the best, it is cheaper in the long term.

Could it also be that people like buying game consoles for the holiday season? ;-)

... but how does that correlate to actual high definition video applications; do you have any graphs on that?Just curious.
AuPh
No graph, but a survey shows 71% of PS3 are connected to a HDTV or HD projector.
So sooner or later most of these 71% will try playing a Blu ray movie.
(some got it with the player)
Sales will then depend on price of Blu ray movies comming down.
The whole point of the HD media is for the Studios to continue to milk the Consumer movie media gravy train (e.g. DVD). But if they can't charge a "decent" (profitable?) price significantly higher than for DVDs for the additional expense (?) producing the HD media, maybe it won't be worth the effort.
very true, so they have to find the "best" price, where both sales and profits are high. Above normal DVD, and lower than now.
