1. The antenna is not powered, just passive.
2. The inputs are DTV so they have a coaxial input labeled DTV/Antenna
3&4 I don't think I am far from the signal.
Something wrong with these sets. There was a troubleshoot that called for pressing the input button on the TV remove several time but that did not work.

If there's a .pdf of the manuals, I'll give them a look when I have time.

I have the same 42 inch model for a long time. Used it in the bedroom first and now it is in the kitchen (replaced an older Vizio 32 inch). It works fine and I've had nothing but an over-the-air antenna with it. When you hit the menu button and go to the TV icon (3rd one), I assume you have it set to antenna vs. cable?
I have 3 Vizio TVs and never had a problem and know lots of others who have them. On the set-up menu, have you selected the appropriate signals (i.e. not cable)? Have you then scanned the channels after doing so? The TV sets that have analog tuners built in as well usually have set-up choices. If I press a channel on my remote on one of my Vizop TVs it shows no signal. For example if I press channel 7 it goes to the analog channel (and gets no signal) and I need to press the channel up button to go to the programmed DTV channel (which requires set-up as noted above).
