I don't have any really fancy ones, but I haven't noticed any certain PQ diff with the best ones I have. The stock cord for my Pio plasma was 18/3 shielded with a ferrite near the IEC. It looks kind of lame, but is reasonably long and flexible. I replaced it with a spare 14/3 shielded and ferrite just for the helluvit a year ago even though it made no diff.
I got far more discernable diffs when choosing which circuit to power the display from...all those switching power supplies, and unlike LCD/CRT, a plasma's power consumption/current requirement is all over the place and continually changing = noisy. The difference was noted in how the display affects other things, not in the display PQ itself.
Actually, now that I think of it, I haven't really noticed much diff changing PCs with stuff that uses switching PSs. Except for the plasma, the things I have that use them don't take much current (Oppo/PS3 BD players).
Follow Ups:
The best cobination I found was to connect my Display to a Power conditoner thru a good power cord. Presently I am using a hand me down from my stereo setup that is the PS AUDIO Extreme. I got deeper blacks, more defintion and better color saturation.
All the best,
Michael
Part of my problem is I was comparing with BD. Differences stick out more clearly (to me) when using DVD. The Oppo BDP-83 already makes a good DVD look quite excellent IMO, but I *can* see the differences between display PCs now.
I am assuming the benefits carry over to viewing BD, the display doesn't know (same signal format sent from BDP for either disc type), it's just harder for me to pick up on when the PQ is already very good.
That makes sense to me. It depends a lot on the TV also. I get the biggest difference with my crappiest TV. My neighbor's SONY, which may already have an excellent PS only had a very slight benefit.
I get a bigger improvement from my line conditioner.
One of my Panny plasmas like the VH type 3. My other Panny plasma will not take a different power cord -- it has a clip on the IEC and I can't fit any others in (anyone else have this problem?)
My LG LCD likes my original Cryomax cord. It cleans up the picture and makes the colors bolder. The pangea AC-9 will not fit any of my TVs and the Pangea AC-14 sucks (much worse than the cryomax).
The fancy audio cords I have tried in place of the VH Type 3 haven't really given me a benefit over the Type 3. I tried my Blacksand Violet on my neighbor's Sony 52" LCD and it was a mild benefit (cleaner, less washed out).
Well, that answers one Q I had about the Pangea, the type I was thinking of maybe getting for the TV. Yes, a fat-ish IEC connector may not fit in there the way the socket is oriented so close to the back metal.
I have great difficulty seeing any PQ diff with PCs so far, much easier with audio stuff for me. Somehow I thought it would be easier than listening...
would you know anyone capable of "switching" out the power supply for a non-switching one?
LOL. I wouldn't let them touch it. *I* wouldn't even do it, it would be a beast to take apart too.
Just putting it on a circuit on the "other" AC phase from what all my other audio/HT gear is on, very conveniently available, seems to eliminate any of the tiny noise things I noticed.
