Yeah, I knew my TV was a lower priced Panasonic & that's why I could afford it... I bought that particular model because it got pretty positive reviews despite it's low cost. With an upconverting DVD player, I think the picture quality is outstanding. SD looks about on par with my old CRT set.
One upconverter I'm looking at is a used ADS Tech HDUP-1500. Is this a decent one to consider?
Thanks,
Bob :-)

Didn't you type $100 in your first post? Anyway, after reading a few short reviews, it's definitely not worth the $550 retail price and may not be any better than your display's processing (ie, a waste of your money).
If you want something for this purpose, I suggest you get one from a quality manufacturer who knows what they're doing -- ABT (Anchor Bay Technologies), the makers of DVDO video processors. Even if you can't afford their latest gear, you can find their products on the used market at very affordable prices ($300 and up). Check out the site below ( videogon.com ) and read reviews on the DVDO products that will fit your budget. There are also used video processors for sale in the classified section at avsforum.com (just be sure to research the products you see to be sure they will work for your display).
Check out the DVDO Edge processor from ABT. One Call has a refurbished model for $399 (free shipping). It comes with a 1-year warranty from DVDO, but you can get more coverage, if you want it, from One Call. Ask them about their return policy on this item, just in case you don't like it.
You can read product information at http://www.anchorbaytech.com/dvdo_edge along with user and manufacturer input at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1051246 (it's a very long thread).
Don't take this the wrong way, as I'm not trying to put down your purchase or your financial capabilities. Unfortunately, I don't think the picture you're getting from DISH is really going to be improved upon very much by the purchase of a video processor. Will it be better? Probably, but not really enough to justify the expense of a video processor. Besides the DISH signal, the display you have purchased is also a limitation with regard to the image that is displayed to your eyes. That said, if I were you and had my mind set on getting a high quality video processor for that display, I'd make one call (pun intended).
i have been reading about upscalers lately and
have a similar question
have panasonic TC-P50S1 50inch plasma HDTV with
HD service via time warner. HD channels quite good.
but i watch non-hd channels more often. the picture quality is
no bad at all. but HDMI output of cable box is 1080i and i'm
not sure the TV is upscaling to 1080p
would adding a DVDO edge improve PQ in non HD digital channels?
