I'd say it puts out way less heat overall than the cooling fan vent of our old JVC LCOS-I can only feel it when I place my hand an inch or closer to the top of the panel.
Some of the online forums suggest the LG sets have a higher percentage of problems than other brands (around 4%) but mine seems perfect. We just finished watching an episode of Fringe season 2 on blu-ray and it looked killer.
Follow Ups:
be about 12' away (condsiering the depth of the recliners), so heat is a concern.
"I'd like to own a squadron of tanks"
my media room is about 12' x 12', I sit about 5 feet away from a 50" Kuro and the room is a few degrees warmer after a few hours (i.e. barely noticeable when I step out of the room), but that is likely as much from my body heat as from the set, the power amps, etc.
...no heat issues here; I'd only notice if I put my hand near the screen.
Viewing distance is about right too for my tastes.
For heavens sakes! Heat from plasmas is not a big issue at all. To feel any heat from our 50" Panasonic, you have to have your hand within an inch or so of the set. All the hoopla (usually from people who don't own plasmas) about plasma 'heat issues' is a non-issue. They are NOT wall heaters!. Even if they were, the picture quality more than makes up for it. We live in the central valley of California, where summers temps regularly exceed 100 for days on end, and it heat was an issue, you would hear it from me first.
It isn't at all.
