If you have properly configured the Oppo to use only the L/R speakers (did you try both LT/RT and Stereo for the downmix mode?) and you have chosen a 2channel/stereo audio track, there will be nothing on the center channel output.
Of course, if you re-configure it to have a center channel output you will have to fiddle with the level/volume controls in the Oppo to obtain a suitable balance.

Guys, thanks very much for your input. I've managed to sort myself out and configured the Oppo player for 2 channels. Great player and I'm enjoying BluRay on my new Samsung 8 series LED through my Rowland amps and MBL speakers now.
