Not too sure where to post this, but as we are moving into a townhome the wife agreed to have the stereo in the living room.... on the condition that it "look good", which means out of sight for the most part, or behind closed cabinet doors at the least.
As I have a turntable, this is especially challenging.
I used to have a large wood cabinet, lacking doors though, that worked well. It was a single column about 32" wide, intended for the (20 years ago) home theater enthusiast. I'm looking for a source of similar that might even hold the 32" flat screen and have closing doors to hide all of it when not in use.
Am I dreaming or is such a thing available for less than the price of a new car?

As stated below, the Salamander furniture is indeed very nice and fairly easy to assemble (we have five Salamander Synergy units). The door spring adjustments, though, can be somewhat tricky to get right. It helps, too, to have a bubble level when adjusting shelf heights.
There are many fine alternatives as well, such as Bello (which we also have and I can recommend). Our Bello enclosed model has fixed shelf heights, which makes for less versatility but much easier assembly. The door spring hinges came perfectly adjusted.
Here are a few websites to check:
audioadvisor.com (a Salamander dealer; great customer service)
bello.com (e.g., the Pro Collection)
standsand mounts.com
racksandstands.com
thesimpletvstandstore.com (they sell Salamander audio units, among others)
sanus.com
Also, Amazon offers models from Bello and others.
Two tips: (1) Try to find the manufacturer's online assembly manual prior to ordering to see what might be involved. (2) Telephone (not email) the manufacturer to check out their customer support and ask what they will do if you receive defective parts or if parts are missing. These problems sometimes occur.
Good hunting!
Agreed about Salamander Designs. Most of their stuff comes in Walnut or black and the price is relatively reasonable.

I've seen these up close; definately not the typical discount department store quality and a world removed from the self-assembly type.
