  Here's the problem for you with a U.S.-legal/modern/current receiver (AVR): due to copyright restrictions, component video input will *not* be upscaled for component video output. For the same reason, current devices like BDPs do *not* have component output.

  To put another way: if you bought a current BDP (e.g.) with HDMI output, you would only be able to get HDMI output with it from the AVR. And when you input component video to the AVR, you would only be able to get the exact same resolution as the input on the component video output.

  Unasked, but maybe of interest: any component or composite or HDMI input to the AVR can be upscaled for HDMI output *only*.

  A lot of this re AVRs isn't new really. Component outputs have only quite recently been removed from BDPs, last year I think (sunset clause).

  Edit: note that you can get HDMI-to-component converters you could put on the AVR HDMI outputs, most have 2(+) now. monoprice etc. used to have them, don't know about now. This would only be useful in your case with HDMI sources though, unless you also put component-to-HDMI converters on them... They really really want to kill component due to its potentially high-quality and easily pirated signals. And to sell new displays...
