It appears that you can adjust default volume level of the various digital inputs and the AUX input on your Rotel preamplifier. See page 14 of the Rotel RC-1572MKII manual, FIXED GAIN.

I don't know if this will address your issue.

I no longer have that preamp, and it was in a different system.
