Banshees of Inisherin. One of the best film I've seen.

An odd story as far as modern films go, about middle age in remote Irish isolation, 1920's. That's my interpretation. It starts odd and quirky, but descends. As such a viewer can be a little blindsided by the change in tone. No Disney brand on this one. But I've lived in Alaska for three decades, and I think I understand this phenomena a little better than most. I've seen what isolated settings can do to people's senses of normalcy as time keeps pressing in. See this one. If it doesn't get best picture, or actor, or supporting, cinematography, whatever, then it will be a shame. I'm a Colin Ferrell fan. This might be his best work. Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, Kerry Condon, all of them outstanding. The setting and filmography are half of the story. A winner on all counts imo. I dialed it up on pay per view for a few bucks. Spend the money. |
Doesn't do the Irish any favors. *, posted on February 22, 2023 at 15:35:00 | |
