Banshees of Inisherin. One of the best film I've seen.

 An odd story as far as modern films go, about middle age in remote Irish isolation, 1920's. That's my interpretation. It starts odd and quirky, but descends. As such a viewer can be a little blindsided by the change in tone. No Disney brand on this one.

But I've lived in Alaska for three decades, and I think I understand this phenomena a little better than most. I've seen what isolated settings can do to people's senses of normalcy as time keeps pressing in.

See this one. If it doesn't get best picture, or actor, or supporting, cinematography, whatever, then it will be a shame. I'm a Colin Ferrell fan. This might be his best work. Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, Kerry Condon, all of them outstanding. The setting and filmography are half of the story. A winner on all counts imo.

I dialed it up on pay per view for a few bucks. Spend the money.

 OK, I will start by being kind. Excellent acting, Nice location and landscape, the animals were nice addition. Now to the story.
I was interested for the first half or so. Then the combination of self mutilation and loss of caring if the characters resolved their differences took over. YMMV

 More or less my reaction too.

Great scenery, beautiful cinematography, solid acting, but a story that bored the piss outta me ... and I really don't care if it was some kind of allegory about the Irish civil war. It was boring.

Great acting, though. And the scenery.

 ...with Florence Pugh better than Banshees.

It has a similar setting and slow pace but a more interesting story.
