It is certainly very embarrassing for the BDA , and for Blu-ray cheerleaders , to see that an HD DVD release has the #1 position on this VideoScan chart .

LOL

" The American Gangster HD DVD outsold the top Blu-ray release , Michael Clayton , by nearly 2:1 " .

LOL

Yeah, but the other 9 in the Top 10 were Blu-rays, plus Blu won overall with 77% of hi-def sales. (nt), posted on March 4, 2008 at 19:15:12

Great movie, I understand

Many people bought HD DVD players. Why wouldnt they add a great movie to their collection?

It is certainly not "very embarrassing for the BDA , and for Blu-ray cheerleaders" except in your mind.

I wonder if the standard dvd sales results were similar..., posted on March 4, 2008 at 22:44:39

... the movie seems bound to be successful, no matter what the format. And its price on Amazon is $19.99 for the HDDVD combo, which is really good. Clayton was priced at $25.95 for the BD. It may be a dying format, but a good deal is hard to resist.

Warner Targets June For 'Dirty Harry' Blu-ray Set
Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 11:00 AM ET
Tags: Disc Announcements, Warner (all tags)

Dirty Harry fans, mark your calendars: Warner has set an early June Blu-ray arrival for all five of the Clint Eastwood vigilante classics.

Dubbed 'Dirty Harry: The Ultimate Collection,' and featuring all five films in the famous franchise ('Dirty Harry,' 'Magnum Force,' 'The Enforcer,' 'Sudden Impact,' 'The Dead Pool'), the long-awaited box set is due to fire on Blu-ray June 3, day-and-date with a set of new DVD re-issues.

As Warner has yet to issue a full media announcement, there were no tech specs or supplemental details at press time, but the studio has told us that each film in the series will be newly remastered, and that the box set will boast numerous bonus features.

There was also no word yet on whether the studio has plans to issue the five Dirty Harry films as standalone Blu-ray releases. Needless to say, we'll keep you posted.

anomalies, sort of like those Japanese soldiers that were occasionally discovered on some isolated Pacific islands up through the 1960's -- the discovery of which did not "prove" that the war was not ended.

HD-DVD won the war with bluray. DVD-A won the war with SACD.

Dualdiscs are popular.

Quadraphonic LPs will come back any day now.

.... because the regular DVD version of American Gangster outsold the regular DVD version of Michael Clayton by over 3:1 .

Moreover , the next-best-selling HD-DVD title sold less than one-sixteenth as many copies as American Gangster .

And , as noted by another Inmate , Blu-Ray titles collectively outsold HD-DVD titles by nearly 2:1 since the format wars began . And just this year alone , BD titles outsold HD-DVD titles collectively by a greater than 3:1 margin .

With Toshiba's recent announcement with regards to HD-DVD , guess which is DeadDisc now ????

So , who's LOLing now ????

ZS, what do you use for hardware? Your, ahem, zeal for the format, whether DVD-A or HD-DVD, is extraordinary, so it suggests that you use equipment that could get the absolute most out of the software. I think others on this list would be curious to know what you are running, so that they too may achieve the audio and video nirvana that you have.
