A younf Yves Montand is one of four drivers who, in teams of two, are ferrying huge amounts of nitroglycerin by truck over 300 miles of rough South American country to snuff out an oil well fire. The film takes a long time to get going but when it does, it's a taut tension laden thriller with a number of set pieces displying problems in physics even a small child can understand. A classic, highly recommended. Remade as "Sorcerer", which I may watch tonight (the remake went nowhere in terms of box office but is not bad).
