Mexican film... Mexican film?

We don't often mention films from Mexico here... it is a rare event that one gets our attention. Last time I wrote about one was probably The Crime of Father Amaro with Gael GarcÃa Bernal, who is apparently a very popular male star.

So last night we put on Love's a Bitch. And I will jump ahead of myself by saying that I recommend that one.

The film surely covers a LOT of territory in its 153 minutes - it is a story of three separate lives that suddenly all come together.

While not a true gem by the objective world standards, it is nonetheless a very interesting study of several different characters that will keep you there curious for what's coming next.

It manages to avoid the usual trivialities and even though some situations would seem contrived, it has a particular not-to-fast flow that is undeniable and even charming.

There are several episodes that will inevitably get you onto thinking path, as they tend to suggest many things at once and leave you to finish the picture. You don't find that all that often and it is something of good value... in today's cinema.

The director Alejandro GonzÃ¡lez IÃ±Ã¡rritu hardly needs an introduction - everyone here (except me...) seems to know him by his latest work 21 Grams. Well, Amores Perros (Life's Bitch) was his first work, even though he was already mature 37 at that time.

And while the discussions here did not exactly make me want to see 21 Grams, after Amores Perros I am going to look at it.

A good and interesting film that is easy to recommend.
